KUTZTOWN BEER RUNNERS

Kutztown Beer Runners was established in beautiful Kutztown, Pennsylvania in March of 2019. We are an official chapter of the Fishtown Beer Runners of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (see below). Kutztown Beer Runners promotes the tenets of the founding chapter in Fishtown through responsible running and drinking in the interest of science! We gather every Thursday at 6:15 PM, rain or shine, to run approximately 3 to 5 miles, ending at a local establishment featuring a quality beer selection. We always enjoy our beer after the run, not before, not during.

Many of our runs start in the borough of Kutztown right outside of the historic Kutztown Train Station at the intersection of Peach & Railroad Streets, just steps away from the old Saucony Shoe Mfg. Co. building (yes, that Saucony!). However, we also like to venture outside of the borough and visit our neighbors from time to time.

Kutztown Beer Runners is open to anyone 21 and over. There is no formal membership, no fees, and no dues. You just have to buy your own beer! We welcome all ability levels, from walkers to marathoners. More experienced runners should remember that this is primarily a social outing meant to promote camaraderie and community.

Every run is an homage to the founding chapter in Fishtown, our beautiful community in Kutztown, and the man whose research inspired all of this, The Professor.

To Fishtown, To Kutztown, To the Professor!

FISHTOWN BEER RUNNERS

One afternoon in November, 2007 while running together in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Eric Fiedler told David April about a beer study conducted by Professor Manuel Castillo at the University of Granada, Spain. Eric and David decided to test the study and stopped for a beer at the New Wave Cafe on Allegheny Avenue. Several trial runs later, David and Eric were determined to spread the word to beer drinkers and runners alike and formed the Fishtown Beer Runners. The first official run, with four runners, took place on December 20, 2007 to the Druid's Keep.

The primary mission is to test the results of the scientific research study conducted by Manuel J. Castillo-Garzon, MD, Professor of Medical Physiology, School of Medicine, University of Granada. The study said that beer and water have similar rehydration effects under the conditions of the study, which compared  a moderate amount of beer (660 ML) to the same amount of water.

The Fishtown Beer Runners combine responsible running and consumption in the interest of science!
